Cheryl Smith
Cheryl signed up for her first yoga class in 1998 and loved it immediately. Busy at the time with a baby daughter and a nearly completed Ph.D. in History, she was looking for some exercise and fun outside the home. She had always taken fitness and dance classes, but from her first experience of yoga, she knew this was “it.” Cheryl found yoga to be a wonderful mix of the physical, intellectual, and spiritual. It was a practice that offered a sense of well being from the first class, yet it also offered enough challenges for a lifetime.
Cheryl began studying with Helen Duquette in 1999 and completed her 500 hour/2 year teacher’s course in 2003. The course work included human physiology, yoga philosophy, practical aspects of teaching, and apprenticeship with talented teachers. For the past four years, Cheryl has taught Hatha yoga classes in Oakville to adults and children. She has also developed a deep personal practice that brings her great pleasure.
So many people today are tired and stressed because of all their work and family responsibilities, and Cheryl believes yoga is a wonderful way to take a few moments for ourselves, to stand tall, to stretch and twist, to pause and take a deep breath, and to emerge feeling so much better.
