2021…Finally!

I can't recall ever being more relieved or happy to see the new year approach.  (Well, ironically I was quite looking forward to 2020.  It was going to be a big year personally with so many plans and adventures ready to go.  Well, we all know how that turned out!

And so here we find ourselves finally in 2021.  We have all experienced a year like none other and I think generally, many of us are happy to turn the calendar page.  I love this time of year because it does feel like a reset.  I do enjoy a fresh new daytimer and smooth, inky pens that glide just right, and I look forward to planning out the next few months.  A few years ago though, I made a change.  I stopped making New Year’s resolutions and created instead, a ritual of choosing one word to guide me through the year ahead.  You can read more about this here.

I have been listening to the whispers inside of myself the past week and a word has been revealed.  Honestly, I wasn't quite sure that I wanted the word that came up.  I think I was hoping for a fun, whimsical, or refreshing word that perked me up in some way.  (After 2020, I think I am ready for a cool fruity cocktail kind of word!)

The word that has been revealed to me for 2021 is "Rebuild".  Not sexy or flashy.  It doesn't even sound fun or inspiring.  The word implies more hard work.  Blah, blah, blah.  But it is fitting and needed.

We have all been knocked down one way or another this past year.  I guess it is time to learn our lessons, lick our wounds, move forward, and rebuild the lives that we want.

I now feel myself accepting this reality and even grateful for the pause that was forced upon us in 2020.  Things needed to change and they were going to change whether we were ready or not.  We survived an incredibly challenging year.  Now it is time to rebuild and respond to the lessons learned and create a new way of moving forward.

What will be your "One Word" for 2021?
